Totus Tuus: Marian Consecration According to St. Maximilian Kolbe—in the Context of the Catholic Mariological Tradition
Rev. Thomas Nelson, O.Praem.
This course examines the theological, spiritual, and apostolic facets of St. Maximilian Kolbe’s teaching about Marian Consecration, beginning with a general overview of the Catholic Mariological tradition – biblical, patristic, scholastic. Besides studying the
historical roots of Marian consecration in St. Kolbe’s Polish heritage and Franciscan formation, the course also surveys the ecclesial embrace of “Totus Tuus” piety in the 17th-century French School of Spirituality, with its subsequent influence upon the
missionary impulse of the Church in the 19th century, through the 20th-century Marian-ecclesial renewal evident in St. Kolbe’s contemporaries: St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta and Pope St. John Paul II.(SPIR 810)
